May 12-18, 2025 — The collaborative works of our goldsmith, Crystal Liew, and Fuukidou’s Takeshi Fujii — “Ebb & Flow” and “Aromatic Dialogue” — were showcased at the historic Royal Society of Sculptors in South Kensington, London, during London Craft Week 2025.
Organised by Crafts on Peel and supported by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (London), this exhibition highlights crafts and traditions that span regional boundaries and generations, embodying the essence of Hong Kong as a melting pot of cultures. Sunsmith was invited by Crafts on Peel to collaborate and co-create with Fuukidou over a period of 42 days in 2024. We are proud to announce that our collaborative works were selected for display at this prestigious event in 2025.
This is a rare opportunity to share our creativity and craftsmanship with the world. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Crafts on Peel for inviting us to showcase our passion for crafts to a global audience!
Invited by Crafts on Peel, Crystal travelled to London to personally share the stories behind the works she co-created with Takeshi Fujii.

About the Craft Exchange
Through the Crafts Fellowship Programme, Takeshi Fujii travelled to Hong Kong and Crystal Liew vice versa in Japan for a reciprocal crafts exchange. During his stay, Takeshi visited local craftsmen of different generations. The pair experimented with a traditional Japanese tin coating technique in Hong Kong and hosted workshops to share the craft of metalsmithing with the general public. Crystal's time in Tsubamesanjo involved intensive training under Takeshi's tutelage, participation in master classes run by established local metalsmiths, and visits to museums, craft centres and tool shops, from which she gained valuable insights into the community's craft engagement.
Crystal Liew and Takeshi Fujii's collaborative artistry, embodied in two kettles, a coffee drip pot, a teapot, and a substantial sculptural installation, exemplifies the harmonious fusion of aesthetic refinement and practical function.
Aromatic Dialogue
Aromatic Dialogue juxtaposes a set of drinkware created in dialogue with each other, as the artisans exchanged their coppersmithing techniques, each participating in various stages of both pieces' creation. This collaborative process is mirrored in the cultural themes: the teapot represents Hong Kong's rich tea-drinking history, while the coffee drip pot reflects the significance of coffee culture in Japan. The work thus functions as both a literal set of vessels and a metaphorical container for these distinct cultural narratives.
Ebb & Flow
Ebb & Flow is a sculptural installation that masterfully unites tradition and innovation and showcases the harmonious blend of Hong Kong and Japanese cultures. Crystal Liew and Takeshi Fujii, inspired by Hong Kong's bamboo scaffolding, reimagine this unique architectural design with a contemporary twist. Employing brass tubes to recreate the "bamboo pole" structure, they adorned it with 42 exquisitely engraved mamezara copper dishes, each symbolizing natural elements from both regions. This installation commemorates the 42-day exchange of exceptional craftsmanship.
